Dr Cheryl Hemingway

Dr Cheryl Hemingway has been a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist for 20 years and is currently working at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in London.

Cheryl is an international medical graduate, having trained initially at Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, then John Radcliffe, Oxford and she also undertook an epilepsy fellowship at Johns Hopkins, USA. She has a PhD from Imperial College, London and she has used the expertise gained from this to provide specialised clinical care to children with rare neuro-inflammatory disorders, as well as providing care for children with many other neurological problems.

Cheryl has been involved in education for many years, ensuring neurology trainees have both good training and also support. She was initially Unit Training Director at GOSH, then North London Deanery Advisor and she is now Deputy National Training Advisor and on Neurology CSAC.

Cheryl is also research active, with grants for clinical research and a number of recent important publications.

She works full time, and is married with two teenagers. She understands the difficulties involved with moving countries and also the challenges of getting a work life balance.
