Specialist training in paediatrics is a run through programme with 3 levels - Level 1: ST1-3; Level 2: ST4-5; Level 3: ST6-8. Currently you need to apply for grid in ST5 to start in ST6. It may be possible to apply in ST6 as long as your ST6 post is in an accredited paediatric neurology training programme.
The RCPCH has applied to the GMC to change the current training programme. The current three level programme would be reduced to two levels: ‘core’ (ST1-4) and ‘specialty’ (ST5-7).
RCPCH expects to hear if this has been approved in summer 2022. See Resources RCPCH Progress+ for more info. If approved, Progress+ could become effective from summer 2023.
This could potentially affect when you apply - start reaching out to us for help and support early - its never too early! See Recruitment Champions above.
